core values

The three values of Kavod, Kesher, and Efsharut are so interdependent that we represent these core values as three intersecting circles with the child at the center.

Kavod
(Respect)

The value of Kavod implies a respect of the child as an important contributor to the educational experience.  When children are seen as competent participants, their interests, questions, and developmental needs become essential components of the curriculum.  In addition, each family brings to the Center unique values and goals which become part of the curriculum planning.  Finally, the educators bring their training, expertise, and expectations to the program.  When we respect one another, we also respect differing opinions, traditions, and values.

Kesher (Relationships)

The success of our program depends upon the strength and honesty of the relationships among children, educators, and families.  The value of Kesher stresses the importance of good communication and collaboration within the classroom and among parents and educators.  When children are helped to develop strong relationships with their peers and with adults, their self-confidence and interpersonal skills are strengthened.  When the relationship between families and educators is strong, the programming and curriculum are enriched.

Efsharut (Discovering Possibilities)

The value of Efsharut underscores the unlimited possibilities for each child.  The educators introduce children to materials and experiences not only to help them appreciate the beauty and wonder of our world, but to open them to the possibilities of the world just waiting to be discovered.  Learning to question, to discover, to investigate, are primary classroom objectives.  This value also connotes an openness of mind and a willingness to explore possibilities, revise previous thinking, and entertain opposing viewpoints.
